MY TICO FAMILY is a program in which our clients live with a Costa Rican family.
In case you didn’t already know, “Tico” is a nickname for the Costa Rican people.
Most commonly the MY TICO FAMILY program is utilized by those who enroll into our Spanish Courses program but can be enjoyed by anyone. All of our student clients are encouraged to participate in this program because it provides an effective tool for practicing and absorbing the Spanish Language. By living with a family who speaks only Spanish, as well as taking Spanish courses at the same time, a student will certainly reach a higher level of Spanish fluency.
The families affiliated with our program, MY TICO FAMILY, are middle-class families which are eager to participate and enjoy this exciting international cultural exchange. We will conduct a preliminary interest survey to best match each student with a host family. The host families are carefully selected and must offer at least a private bedroom, laundry service and two meals per day. Our clients will have the opportunity to coexist within the Costa Rican family nucleus, typically forming tight bonds with their host families.
They will learn the daily life and customs of native Costa Ricans in a first hand experience. They will enjoy the well-known Costa Rican hospitality including the delicious food and most importantly learn about the culture that would otherwise be missed. Also, the My Tico Family program offers a lower cost alternative to staying in hotels which generally do not include all the benefits we have listed above.
